Tawny Owl (strix aluco)
The most common owl chick brought in to rescue centres, is the Tawny Owl. Just like the one in the picture (top left).
Tawny owls lays their eggs in late March early April, Nesting in mostly in tree holes.
Incubation lasts 32-34 days.
Baby Tawny Owls are very good climbers using their beaks, talon's and wings to help them scramble back up into the nest.
They are still very fluffy looking too young, to be able to get back to the nest, but they can.
If you do see one on the floor looking abandoned, its mother will encourage it to scramble back up to the nest and feed it.
If you feel it is in danger from predators, place it as high as you can close to where you found it out of harms way.
Do not worry about leaving your scent on the baby, Owls do not have any sense of smell.
