Help us help our Cornish Wildlife
If you would like to support Ravenswell there are several ways you can help:
Sponsor a Bird
The current coronavirus pandemic means we can’t get out and about to do our usual fund-raising so to encourage sponsorship when people can’t meet the owls in person we are offering a reduced rate of £15 for a year’s sponsorship. In exchange for your sponsorship you will get a printed photo of your sponsored owl, a certificate and the knowledge you are helping our wonderful owls. When we have the ‘all clear’ you will also get the opportunity to meet your sponsored owl in person.
Please select the bird you would like to sponsor from the drop down box below then click on 'buy now' to sponsor a bird by PayPal or card payment (you do not need a PayPal account in order to do this). You can view all our birds by clicking on 'play' on the images above and there is more information further down on this page about individual birds.

Moonshine, a Barn Owl is over 20 years old now and is the most well-known of our rescue owls having been in books, on TV and even having had a piece of music written for her by Oliver Woods! Moonshine laid her first egg last year and has done so again this year and … no … there will be no babies! (All female creatures have within them all the eggs they could potentially produce).
Keziah, a Barn Owl was born April 2016 and was hand reared by Wendy. From a breeder’s second and unwanted clutch, Keziah is definitely still learning the ropes - luckily she has Moonshine to aspire to!
Ash, a South African Owl to Ravenswell in 2013 after the breeder was going to euthanize her because she could not breed. She had gone wild in the aviary; however Wendy managed to train her to be steady on the fist, which needed a lot of patience. Ash is a very content little owl but very strong willed and will let Wendy know if she’s not getting her way!
Rajani, the Wood Owl is a most beautiful owl. Her name means dark night. Rajani had a slight deformity of the beak but with constant care and trimming this now grows normally. She is very sweet and loves to meet people as long as she doesn't see your hands. We think she suffered some trauma from someone's hands. It took many weeks for her to allow Wendy to stroke her - as long as she doesn't see her hand! Rajani loves her head being scratched and is very good at flying to Wendy during displays.
Jazmine, an Indian Eagle Owl was rescued by Wendy when she became unwanted by her owner. Owls take a lot of looking after – 24/7 – especially if you want to keep them tame and no one wants to look after them when owners are on holiday! They can become forgotten in the Aviary and are very difficult to retrain, which was exactly what happened to poor Jazmine. Jazmine took a lot of hard work to gain trust but now she and Wendy make a great team and she is Wendy’s best flying bird!
Bryher, the European Eagle Owl is our biggest owl. He hatched around 1 April 2009 and arrived here as an unwanted inbred chick. He is such a sweet boy and just loves a cuddle! He also loves to pretend to be a bat - he is more interested in the bottom of his feet or a leaf falling than showing off his flying skills.
Branwen, the Raven – beautiful Branwen is certainly a character! She hatched around the end of April 2015. People asked Wendy if she was going to teach Branwen to say the line from the famous poem from Edgar Allen Po “Thus spake the raven nevermore”. Thinking it would be highly unlikely that she would ever speak, Wendy glibly said “No, she’s Cornish. I will teach her to speak Cornish”. Every morning Wendy would greet Branwen with the Cornish word for hello “Dydh da” and around 2 years later Wendy heard someone, in her voice, say hello in Cornish, looked up and could just see through the trees that it was Branwen! Imagine her surprise - but Branwen would never say it in front of her "she was shy". After hanging around in bushes trying to record Branwen’s ‘hello’ for several months at last Branwen spoke in front of Wendy.
